Earth’s 2013 Blackout
By: Hilary Battey
Imagine a day where you are not able to use your mobile phone, GPS, radio, television, computer, etc. What would you do? Well, this is something worth thinking about since Doomsday is not the only threat we should be nervous about.
In the upcoming year, there will be a solar storm that can cause a considerable amount of damage to earth and technology in space. Some experts at NASA claim that this solar storm will be 20 times the damage Hurricane Katrina caused back in 2005.
This solar storm is projected to eject high radiation and charged particles into space. This could cause heavy magnetic fields to become hazardous, which function satellites and space stations. Again, could you image a day without your mobile phone, computer, television, etc.?
There has been a lot of hype over the last several years gossiping about what will happen to our planet and how we will be affected. Perhaps Doomsday is just a big joke and this solar storm is only something to keep everyone on edge. Well, whatever the motive is, there is no doubt that civilization will do everything in its power to keep on living and using cell phones, television and most importantly the Internet.
