They Came, They Saw …They Crawled!

Around the middle of October an eerie feeling fills the air. The sounds of many staggering, shuffling feet can be heard across the Twin Cities and if keep your eyes toward the ground you may see the unsettling sight of left over blood. And if you time it right, you might even step into the path of a group of cold, dead, brain-hungry zombies! But have no fear and leave your stakes, baseball bats, and silver-bulleted riffles at home; it is probably just the annual Zombie Pub Crawl.
The Zombie Pub Crawl, what is that?!
The ZPC, which just held its 8th annual event on October 13, is a Twin Cities’ event dedicated to all things zombie… and it’s become rather popular over the years!
From the ZPC website they describe themselves as follows:
“The Zombie Pub Crawl is an event in Minneapolis/St. Paul during which thousands of people pretend to be dead and wander the streets, boozing and dancing and carousing and having the time of their lives. Which, I guess, is kind of ironic, considering everyone’s dead. It’s like a cross between Mardi Gras and a George Romero movie. It began with 150 zombies in Minneapolis in 2005 and has grown every year since, as any good zombie mob does. There are many copycat events around the world, but this is the original.”
The gathering has grown into the premier Halloween event in the Twin Cities and people get pretty excited about it. Planning costumes and talking about the event starts months in advance.
There are tons of music concerts at each different event site (this year one location featured DMX), lots of bar deals and special zombie-only bars, fireworks, and a carnival with free rides to all zombies just for starts. The ZPC provides parking and shuttles that run all night between the Minneapolis and St. Paul locations for obvious safety reasons. The required wristband does come with a $22.99 price tag, but that’s a very reasonable fee in my option for everything you get–you have access to everything!
This year ZPC wanted to try and break the Guinness World Record for largest gathering of zombies in one place: the previous record was 4,093. The count took place at 8 p.m. on what they deemed “zombie island.” The total number of zombies was 7,917! ZPC has sent everything off to Guinness and is waiting for official confirmation, but it will take a few weeks to hear back. So as of right now, they unofficially crushed the record.
Missed out? Sad about it? Don’t be! If you don’t have plans for the 31st yet the same brains are holding another event called Promageddon, which will be held on the CRAVE rooftop celebrating the coming end of the world… prom style! Grab that special someone, a group of friends, or heck you can even go stag and relive that joyous evening of teenage bliss and wonder that was prom, but in a more grown up sort of way. Well, that’s assuming prom went well for you. If it didn’t, here’s your chance to give it another shot.

They did it! They gathered the most zombies ever and shattered the previous record. The release about it is here!
